We understand that seeking an assessment or diagnosis for your child can be an important and sometimes complex journey.
In the field of Developmental and Behavioural Paediatrics it is important to consider a child’s presentation from multiple angles and across multiple environments, to provide the best possible understanding of your child and the most appropriate supports. Reports, observations, and formal assessments—including standardised assessments completed by allied health professionals and other specialists—can provide valuable insights and help build a more complete understanding of your child’s strengths, needs, and individual circumstances.
The private practicing clinicians working from CDN carefully consider all relevant information available to them, including reports and assessments from other professionals, alongside their own clinical assessment and professional experience to provide a clinical opinion based on their specialised expertise. As the field of Child Development is one of complexity it is possible that your clinician’s opinion and any related diagnosis/diagnoses may not always be the same as that provided by another professional. Similarly, the diagnosis or developmental understanding considered clinically appropriate for your child may not necessarily be the same as a diagnosis or documentation required for funding purposes through NDIS or the Education system.
The aim of the priate practicing clinicians at CDN is to work respectfully, ethically and collaboratively with families and other professionals, with your child’s individual needs and wellbeing at the centre of the assessment and management process.
Each clinician is responsible for providing professional assessment, advice, and care independently to their patients, while working collaboratively with families and, where appropriate, other members of the child’s care team.
We understand that parents may sometimes wish to seek a second opinion when considering their child’s health, development, or management plan. We also recognise how important it is for families to feel confident and comfortable with the care their child receives.
To support respectful and professional relationships between clinicians, private-practicing clinicians do not provide second opinions regarding assessments, diagnoses, or treatment plans made by another clinician who practises within our Clinic. For this reason, we encourage families who would like another perspective to seek an independent second opinion from a suitably qualified clinician outside our Clinic, who can continue your care.
