How to refer to the CDN

This page outlines what you need to do to refer to the clinicians and services at the CDN. All referrals are secured by calling the Administration staff to make your appointment.

Medical Services (Developmental Paediatrics and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry)

Referral to one of our Paediatricians or our Child Psychiatrist requires a written referral from you General Practitioner if you are to receive the rebate from Medicare. This process also enables a collaboration between the Practitioner and your GP that can provide continuing support to your child.

If you are not eligible for Australian Medicare Benefits, you can attend without a GP referral, however you will be liable for the full cost of the service.

Psychology Services

You can just call us to book Neuropsychology assessments, as these do not need specific referrals, and are not usually covered by Medicare.

Some clinical psychology services can be covered by Medicare if you have a Mental Health Care Plan referral from your GP, or a Mental Health referral from your medical specialist (Paediatrician, Psychiatrist, Neurologist).

Psychology services are also covered under some private health insurance policies, however the degree and type of cover varies according to which provider and policy.

Accredited Mental Health Social Worker

You can book to see our Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. Some services can be covered by Medicare if you have a referral from your GP, or a  referral from your medical specialist (Paediatrician, Psychiatrist, Neurologist).

You can just call us to book an appointment with the Literacy Care service for an initial assessment. You do not need a referral.

Neuroplasticity Training
