Speech Pathology
Speech Pathology is more than just speech. Children with developmental differences or neurodivergence can have difficulty with understanding language and non-verbal communication, expressing themself either in words or by other means, clarity of speech and social interactions. Speech Pathologists can help your child or young person understand how to interact, engage, play and communicate effectively with other people.
Speech Pathologists work with children, young people, caregivers and educators and teach them skills across:
- Self-expression
- Learning to talk
- Learning to use an augmentative or alternative communication (AAC) such as PECS or an iPad speech device
- Using speech or a system of communication to ask for things or to say “no”
- Using speech or a system of communication for social purposes such as greeting, showing and sharing ideas
