SchoolLinks - Learning problems

The SchoolLinks program provides a process to solve difficult situations that arise between families, health and education.

The process is one of:

  • Assessment

  • Defining a support team

  • Establishing goals

  • Developing a program with appropriate strategies and resources

  • Management over time

The level of intervention by the SchoolLinks team into a child’s current learning situation is at the discretion of the family and school. The services typically offered by Wendy Horton include:

  • Analysis of medical, academic and psychological data as part of the SchoolLinks team.

  • A meeting with parents to discuss and prioritize needs. A plan of action is then determined.

  • A school visit to observe the child in the school setting – both in and out of the classroom. Appointments are made to meet and gain information with those staff members who are involved in your child’s learning.

  • Time with your child to determine interests, strengths and opinions.

  • The development of a program which includes long and short term goals, suggested modifications to current learning, a list of support resources, and the tools with which the program will be evaluated.

  • Assistance in the implementation of the program in the home and school.

  • On-going management of the program over time. This also includes support for child, family and school.

  • Evaluation of the program and re-negotiation of goals.

  • Assistance in helping parents better manage their child’s learning.
