Therapy and Intervention

Therapies and interventions (such as speech pathology therapy, or educational support) are the foundation of helping children with neurdevelopmental disorders. It is difficult, however, to understand how therapies and other interventions 'fit in'.

The problem is that the therapies and interventions only last for a fixed period of time, and then they stop. Do they 'fix' the problem? If not, what happens afterwards?

Therapies are like episodes in the longer journey (like the shorter races during the Tour de France). At the Child Development Network, we will help you through this maze.

  1. We try to structure each therapy / intervention so that it works toward specific goals (that you identify and choose with our assistance) to be achieved by a specific time.
  2. We think through the question of how to manage the problem otherwise during the time of therapy (what can be done to change people's expectations and 'live with' the problem, what can be done to build child self esteem and resilience).
  3. When the therapy has ceased, we look at where we are, what needs to be managed still, and where to go from there.
